Mainframe gallery recently held an exhibition of the renowned art master Mashkoor Raza. Mashkoor’s solo exhibition was held after quite some time and was received extremely well by the art fraternity. Mashkoor’s recent work is a continuation of the signature, style that all Mashkoor’s artworks carry.
Born in 1950 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, Mashkoor Raza emerged as a prominent figure in the world of art, shaped by an early passion for creativity. As the eldest of eight siblings, Raza’s artistic journey began with a profound interest in fine arts, which eventually led him to the Karachi School of Arts in 1969. Under the guidance of renowned mentors Rabia Zuberi, Hajra Zuberi, and Mansoor Rahi, he refined his skills, earning a Gold Medal upon graduating in 1972. Recognizing his dedication and talent, his mentors invited him to remain at the institution as a teacher, a role he embraced wholeheartedly. In 1990, Raza established the Mashkoor School of Art, a platform to nurture budding artists.
Raza’s artistic signature is defined by a vivid interplay of colors, dynamic compositions, and bold black outlines. His mastery over space and form has produced a unique style celebrated for its emotive depth and technical brilliance. His artwork often features female nudes intertwined with horses, creating compositions that exude sensuality and energy. Recurring motifs like the moon and Quranic calligraphy add layers of symbolism and meaning to his creations. While his subject matter has remained consistent, his innovative approach ensures his work remains fresh and captivating.
Raza’s canvases are characterized by their improvisational and intuitive nature. His paintings, though filled with activity, maintain a clarity that reflects his vision. Throughout his illustrious career, Mashkoor Raza has showcased his art at numerous national and international exhibitions, with notable displays in the USA, UK, Germany, Malaysia, India, and other countries. His works are part of esteemed collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. With over two dozen solo exhibitions and numerous accolades to his name, Raza has been honored with prestigious awards such as the Pride of Performance in 2007 and the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2023.
